Raquel Divar & Cory O – VANDALS
Dubstep producer Cory O teams up with grime MC Raquel Divar in their new video VANDALS. DOPE HAUS caught up with the power duo chilling with EPROM at Bass Coast after their video premiere show in their hometown Portland.
“We wanted to go hard as fuck,” explains Divar the next day after the video’s release.
VANDALS pops off in full grime video fashion complete with dark gritty environments and rowdy jump-up crowd shots. “In the video I’m wearing a Thud Rumble sweatshirt because I grew up on scratch music,” says Raquel, “DJ Qbert and Invisible Scratch Pickles were my favorite shit.”
Raquel Divar’s style is strongly influenced by Wiley and Vince Staples. Her rapid fire bars and tight hooks pair well with classic West Coast bass served courtesy of Cory O. Divar grew up as a “backpacker rapper” and moved on to grime, dubstep and bass music.
“I love lyrical hip hop but I prefer to rap on bangin’ ass beats,” says Divar.
Cory O and Raquel Divar are planning to release a full length album by the end of 2017. Can’t get enough? Check out Raquel Divar and Cory O’s release We the City on Sleeveless Records.
